Face it- the capitalists have absoutely and totally RUINED filmmaking. They`re too god****** cheap to pay decent rates; so they advertise/run festivals/devise schemes to attract greenhorns into the system leaving the real geniuses of the world to scratch around for their next roll of film.

Would or has this happened to plumbers? Carpenters? Lawyers? Accountants?

Absolutely not!

It`s only in the creative areas (areas of potential propaganda) that the men in suits really go to town.

A genuis like Ken Russell would be lost if he were starting out in the Great Britain of today. But then again, in the Great Britain of today, who gives a f***?????????????

Actually, it's easier today to be a film maker than it has ever been in Great Britain.

In the past, the costs of producing a film were prohibitive, insurmountable for an independent. Today we have digital video, anyone with a cheap camera and PC can make a film.

A real genius would use these materials to his/her advantage and still make a valuable piece of art, maybe even a popular one. Incidently, this is how Ken Russell now makes his films - he can't get a movie made commercially these days. I'm sure he'd be just fine if starting today, he had the vision and discipline to get things done. He would make his film using what he could get, then shamelessly self-promote his film until people started to take notice of him.

Look at the positive side - an industry of suits will always churn out repetitive dross and aim to emulate past successes rather than pioneer new ones. This creates an enormous opportunity for people who actually do have vision.

If you start out believing it can't be done, I guarantee you'll fail.

If you are aspiring to be a filmmaker then you're in luck. Indie films are sprouting everywhere and some of these films have better content than hollywood made movies. Look up for indie films in the internet and you can find information on how to contact them.

However.

Aspiring to be a filmmaker is one thing, and being an actual filmmaker is another. You need to have a better understanding of the world around you. Every person is a story so you should be able to see those stories, combine it , perfect it and make it into a script.

You need to invest on a good camera and convince people to act in your film. Some will demand a small fee while others will do it for free just for the fun on it. When you're done you can show it to an indie company and hope that your material is good enough for them to distribute.

I cannot agree with everyone. If it was that easy, we all would be in the movies. To write the script is one thing, to edit it and make it a hit, that is another??
