Okay… so which one is better? In terms of quality and the sound it emits, upright or grand?

I read in Wiki that a vertical piano (or upright) plays smoother than a grand if it's well regulated. After reading that I couldn't tell which one is better anymore. I also read that the advantage a grand has over the vertical is that you can play faster trills in grand. If you can play 14 trills in a grand you could only 7 in a vertical piano. Is that much of a HUGE difference? I couldn't tell since I'm not a pro… so… Please help ^^

Well, all pianos are different, depending on brand, name, and all sorts of other factors. Grand pianos are amazing to play, and sound so good. You can adjust the volume and sound by opening it and letting the sound flow, or close it to muffle it a little more.

Some uprights can be opened in a similar mannor as well. And take much less space, and commonly are less expensive.

However, you may want to try a mini-grand. It has the same number of keys, and the same size of keys, but isn't as huge the other way, or expensive.

Of course, there's always the option of getting an electric piano too, but then I sugest getting one with weighted keys so that it feels natural when you play.

In all reality, the difference between pianos is the sound, and the size. Everything else is the skill of the player! Good luck finding the piano that's right for you. And if you're still confused try piano, or music stores. They might be able to help you out, and give you some good advice. Good luck again!

Some piano companies, like Yamaha, make an "upright grand", where a grand-sized harp is turned vertically. You get the sound of a grand piano in the space of an upright. You don't need to be a pro, just let your ears and hands be your guide.

I'd go for the grand every time provided I had the space for it!! Having said that, there are some fantastic uprights out there too.
