At what age do you stop referring to your child as 'baby' and begin referring to them as 'toddler'?

Lol ... it's been 8 years since I had my last baby and I don't remember?

I have a 15 month old so I flick between 'newborn & baby' questions and 'toddler & preschool' questions and it occured to me that I am not really quite sure at what age one ends and the other begins?

I have begun to refer to my little girl as a toddler because she is up on her feet and 'toddling' around but I note that some questions in newborn and baby are about children my daughter's age.

So how do you refer to your 15 month old children?

A lot of people put their questions anywhere probably because they don't know any better. I have made the same mistake myself at times. I think that as soon as your child starts to walk on their own, is when they are referred to as a toddler. The thing is though some parents never stop thinking of their children as their babies, no matter what age you grow up to be.

Well, I don't have a 15 month old, but I've been around more than a few (am currently surrounded by 11y.o's, but that's something different altogether).

A toddler is a child that is up and 'toddling' around. As soon as they can move upright on their own, they become a toddler. (According to our good friend wikipedia, that can be anything from 12months-36months.) As their physical development continues they move on to being a child.

As for a baby, well, I assume it prior to toddler, but I would think there's a good amount of crossover.

Around 13 or 14 mths I began to consider my daughter a toddler... as she was always toddling around. I've seen other's refer to babies up to 18mths, then toddlers from 18mths to 3yrs. At my daughter's daycare she's in the Nursery, and doesnt change to Toddlers until she's 2yrs old. That seems late I think! I've stopped considering her a baby for quite some time, as she's already 22mths.

My monster is a toddler (as well as being a pain at times!) and he is 17 months. We still call him the baby sometimes though!!

And I can beat that 8 years - my daughter is 19 in a couple of weeks!!

I still call my 4 year old "Baby" but seriously at 15 months he could be considered either. I think once they start to walk (toddle) they are considered Toddlers.
I would ask your questions in both categories.
Good luck & take care.

well I always though that once they started to walk they were no longer a baby and that they were a toddler.

My children were always my babies. One is 21 and she is still my baby...so I guess I was not much help.

I would say it is up to you.
