About 6 months ago I had laser surgery. Before the surgery I had to sign papers that the money would come off my back account automatically. This would be a lump some the day before and afterwards monthly.

I did this. I handed it in. They have the permision/documents to take the money off the acount. The problem is that they haven't done this. They havent done anything. I haven't paid for it.

Really I think this is not my responsibility. Do I ethically/morally have to give them a call?

The way these things work out for me is :
the day my bank account is just about empty, this
bill will hit the bank and I'll be slapped with overdrafts and late fees and all kinda nasty things from my friendly banker.

Call them and straighten them out.

All you have to do is check your bank account and see if they deducted your payment already. If yes, no more problem. But if no, you simply get the exact amount and hand them over to the hospital or doctor. In that way, you will gain their trust on you and at the same time, you can easily approach them if you need some more assistance.
Cheers! No need to worrry, ok?

I would give them a call. It is possible, but somewhat unlikely, that in a couple of months you will get a call from a collections agency and a ding on your credit report for not paying the surgeon. Then you will have a bigger mess to take care of.

You did your end of the agreement by signing and giving permission to debit your account, now its up to them to collect it. It certainly isnt your responsibility to chase them up. I definately would not spend it though just incase they ask for it at a later date. Its not very often you get something for nothing so enjoy!

Yes, you do. The most likely thing is that they typed in the wrong account number and are taking it from someone else instead. So you should tell them before that other person does.

You don't have to call them. They probably have a specific date for their debits-just make sure the money remains available for whenever they try to get it.
