First check the gearing. Does he have more teeth on the front sprocket? Less on the rear? If it's the same as yours, you may have to take a look at the bore x stroke and jetting. Without getting too technical, the easiest way to gain speed is to buy new sprockets. Get a front sprocket with one more tooth and a rear with one less tooth. This will cause the motor to spin the your rear tire quicker because the extra sprocket on the front will give more leverage to the rear wheel which has a sprocket that will spin slightly faster because it doesn't have to travel as far ro make a complete rotation. The reason I say to add a tooth and take a tooth is because you won't have to get into calculating the length of your chain because you offset the gearing with a 1 to 1 ratio, you should be able to use the same length chain and not cause too much stress on your motor.

more then likey he has a bigger gear on his rear tire with make his bike go faster then yours. he will probably get off the line slower. but it in top end it's will be a fast bike. if he has a smaller gear then you it will do just the opposite.

Sometimes it may be hard to accept, but he may be a better rider.

And sometimes, engines that do not sound good and rattle more have better clearances and can move better. (Are we talking 2 stroke or 4 here?)

Count how many teeth are on the front & rear sprockets of each bike.
Are they they same?
If not, there's your answer.
