I know I'm a little late in watching this movie, and I think I understand it, but I have a few questions and want to know if anyone else has answer [or opinions] about what happened.

1. Did Leonard actually kill his wife with insulin, or did it just seem that way because Teddy distorted his memory?

2. Am I correct- Teddy has absolutely nothing to do with Leonard's wife's death and the story, other than the fact that he wants to use Leonard to get Jimmy's drug money...right?

3. Was Leonard the one in the insane asylum the entire time...or was the story of Sammy Jankis real?

Please don't give me a plot summary from Wikipedia; I definitely know the plot. I just have some questions and I would like to know the opinion of someone who really really understood the film. Thanks!

Okay one more... I just read a few things about the movie that all said that Leonard's wife actually did die in the break in like Leonard remembered. And, Teddy told Leonard that he had already tracked down and killed his wife's killer...if both of these things are true, why did Teddy tell Leonard that Sammy was a fraud and it was actually Leonard who killed HIS wife with insulin?

From what I recall.. The wife did not die during the break in.. she was raped, and leonard was injured.. The story of Sammy Jankis was a combination of real and not... the case existed, but he found out the guy was really faking it.. but due to the trauma his brain sort of twisted the two to protect him.. The tricking him into giving her two doses of insulin was real.. but it happened to Leonard's wife. Teddy was the investigator in the original case.. I think he probaby believed most of it.. until after Leonard tracked down one of the "killers" .. I'm guessing most of the "killers" were set ups.. Most likely Teddy was using him the entire time.. It's probably played itself out several times and he probably tells him what happens each time.. knowing full well he'd forget almost immediately.. If you watch from the beginning.. the spans of memory get shorter and shorter as the movie progresses .. so his memory loss was getting better.. at the end though he once again reverts because he wants to.. dealing with the trauma of guilt again makes him lose it.. He doesn't want to remember so he doesn't.. he just starts over.

I possess the dvd and adored this film. I understood the tale precisely as John W right here explains but it surely does go away you with the doubt of whether or not that is simply the way in which serial killers feel. The exceptional feel approximately Memento is that you'll notice how traces within the discussion make increasingly experience at any time when.
