Sometimes your muscles get chilled and you get a cramp. When I played a lot of B ball I use to get em big time. I have no idea how it works, but it does. My grandmother is the one who told me this, but seriously try it before you laugh. Whatever pair of shoes you wear last before you go to bed, take them off on the side you sleep on. Turn them upside down under that side. You won't have leg cramps in the night.
When they hit you immediately point your toes straight out and stretch your leg muscles. Stand up and rub the muscle.

Sounds like a potassium deficiency. That can cause cramps. Eat potassium rich foods such as banana's, and take a multi vitamin.
