I smell gas in my room I've never had it happen.. I'm in a basement room and I have my window open but can't tell if it's coming from outside or not. Should I be worried right now? What should I do?

I'm only guessing it's gas, but I'm not sure.

If it's just a waft of gas, then take a spoonful of Liquid soap and mix it with a little water and, using a brush go around all the pipe fittings in your area. Especially he ones that had some type of activity lately.
If it's so strong, then see if 911 can come out, usually the gas company can come out for a gas leak and detect this without bothering the 911 response team unless it's an emergency. They'll help you detect the leak and fix it.

Gas does go to the floor so opening a window will only help if there's a large enough amount to dispel all the air to the window, by then it's going to be to late.

Call the gas company and have them check it out. But do so from OUTSIDE the house.....if your basement is filled with fumes, even a cellphone or cordless phone could be enough of an electrical charge to ignite a room full of fumes. The gas company should come out and check it for you without charging you, assuming it wasn't something like a portable heater or somehow something you or another resident caused.

LPG gas sinks in the air. Natural Gas goes up or at least wafts around. Most likely LPG gas. Don't light a cigarette or heater until you get it checked.

911 call (or 000 here in Oz) might cost you money (A fire brigade call out costs money here if it's a false alarm) so sus it out as much as you can. Check upstairs occupants first. Find out if there's a gas boiler above you etc. It might just be a bit of blow off when someone worked on or changed the cylinder - that happens. But do sus it out.

If the main valve became off the gas could not attain the room. that's conceivable the main is often off, and is only leaking particularly. yet then the valve in the room could be keeping. So if the two valves are totally closed, we have not one yet 2 valves failing, or a leak in the line between the main and the valve in the room, on the brink of the valve in the room. i admire the soapy water theory. They sell a product to locate leaks, yet its notably lots the comparable style of concern. in case you will detect info of bubbles at the two valve of any of the uncovered line in the room, you'll want the priority narrowed down. call the gas enterprise and ask in the event that they are going to cost back verify the valve on the main. in the event that they do cost and you at the instant are not keen to pay, ask in the event that they are in a position to close off the gas earlier it gets interior your place.

If you smell gas, you should call the gas company to check it out. its usually something minor, but dont take the chance.
natural gas and propane are not poisonous or toxic, the main danger here is fire or explosion.

call 911 and let them know your situation. best guess would be to leave the house until they get there, so you don't harm yourself. gas can be very deadly and I don't wish for anyone to be in the middle of a dangerous situation. go ahead and save your life. you might be saving the lives of others too.
