Tank Johnson was waived by the Bears because of multiple violations of the teams conduct policy. The team had counseled him several times and eventually had seen no progress and let him go.

The Bears did everything that they could to help him, and didnt want to lose a player of his ability at such a thin position. Tank is working out with a private trainer and coach to stay in shape hoping that a team will sign him for the second half of the season since he must miss the first 8 games due to a league suspension. Tank will be a bargin for a team late in the year for a team needing D-Line help, since he can sign cheaper than even a free agent rookie because of his suspension.

His legal troubles are as follows;
November 2005, Johnson was arrested at the Excalibur nightclub in Chicago's Cook County for possession of a handgun in his sport utility vehicle. Johnson pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge and was sentenced to 18 months probation and 40 hours of community service.

February 2006, Johnson, while still on probation, was charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest after allegedly verbally threatening a police officer. Johnson was leaving Level Nightclub on Chicago's Rush Street when the police officer was ticketing a limousine driver whom Johnson had hired. As Johnson allegedly put up a struggle, he was maced and subdued with the help of other police officers. The charges were eventually dropped.

December 2006, Lake County police officers searched Johnson's home in Gurnee, Illinois, and allegedly discovered that he possessed six firearms, including two assault rifles. According to police reports, some of the guns were loaded and there were children in the house. He was charged with violation to probation and possessing unlicensed weapons.

In the spring of 2007 Tank was sentenced to 120 days in jail for the probation violation and plead guilty to reduced weapons charges and served the sentences concurrently.

June 2007 was released from jail and annouced that he was going to be a model citizen and complete counseling sessions in an attempt to reduce his 8 game league suspension. Less than 3 weeks later he was taken into custody by Arizona police for speeding and driving impaired. That was the final straw.

i think of they'll do o.ok. , yet Rex Grossman wasn't doing to warm on the top of the season and no offense yet he stunk interior the great Bowl i think of he threw greater possibilities then TD's in that interest . He probable averaged approximately 2 or 3 possibilities and a million or 2 TD's on the top of the season final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. i assumed he became going to do good after he had a magnificent beginning up of the season ........ yet boy became I incorrect. yet nevertheless i think of if he throws greater TD's and much less possibilities this coming season the bears would desire to do as good as final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. rather he does not even could play that good and that they might win, I recommend final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days he did undesirable a million/2 the season and yet they have been 13-3. Plus they have a ill protection. If the offense performed as good because of the fact the protection they had pass undeffited each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. yet they did loose a key component of there offense Thomas Jones. So i assume it would desire to pass the two way. Heck no he won't be thrown off the gang he's apoligized and he reported he won't do it back and thats good adequate for me.

Tank Johnson was kicked off the Bears for exercising his 2nd Amendment rights to defend himself without permission from the government.

He had a near terminal case of dumb-sh*t syndrome. Tank was almost too stupid to cash his paychecks.
