What are some really scary movies? I don't like the ones with zombies/monsters/etc. attacking people or with lots of chopping up and killing. I think they're really stupid. I thought the 6th Sense was an interesting idea but not very scary. What are some really scary movies that are done in a similar way to that?

Hi Catherine,

some modern movies are full of grue and gore plus a myriad of special effects designed to help turn your stomach. Many of them fall down in the storyline, as you say.

The REALLY scary films are the ones that you genuinely believe could happen. Among these is one of the scariest I have seen, which is the original (and definitely NOT the number 2 version) of the excellent 'The hills have eyes'

This film is so scary because everything that happens you really believe could happen to you! If you can find a copy rent it and sit with a friend (or husband/boyfriend-not both!)

Good luck and have a cushion to hide behind!

p.s. the 'hills have eyes 2' is an inferior version, not a patch on the original (as is often the case with remakes and 'second-shot' movies merely attempting to 'cash in' on the first version's success)

Cheers,

BobSpain

I've seen most of the movies mentioned here. The Exorcist really has only one or two scary scenes, and imho a slightly funny one (the projectile vomiting scene.)
The movie that I found by far the scariest I had ever seen is the Japanese Version of 'The Ring' .

I think the most terrifying movie ever made would be Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood.
