My son is 8 months old, and simply will not tolerate a blanket on him while he sleeps. When he was less than 5 months, I could put a light blanket on him and he'd stay under it. Now when he lays down to sleep, it gets kicked off immediately. If I put it on after he's asleep, he wakes up mad within minutes, kicking at it.
If the room is like 72-74 degrees, does he need a blanket?
If he does, are clothes/socks a good alternative to a blanket?
Does your baby sleep under a blanket?

My son hates blankets, I just dress him warm and on cold night he would cuddle with me, but it's summer now so it's good now.

My baby is the same way and has been that way since he was about 6 months(13mos now) He would kick the blanket off and when I tried to put it back on he kucked it right back off and to this day he still does not sleep with a blanket.
What I usually did was put him in a sleeper or a T-shirt with shorts and socks that kept him warm enough so yes you can use clothes as an alternative If your baby is comforatable without a blanket than that's more important than him being uncomforatable RIGHT!!! He'll be fine.

My son is the same way and stopped letting us swaddle him at just a few months old. Truth is, its best not to keep blankets on them; I've come back to find blankets on my son's head - scary!! Like others have mentioned, sleep sacks are great - http://www.target.com/gp/search.html/602-4417125-7312623?field-keywords=sleep+sack&url=index%3Dtarget&ref=sr_bx_1_1. They are essentially wearable blankets that have lots of room for your son to kick and move around freely; he won't even know its on.
I am always worried about my son being cold simply because I hate when I'm cold at night; he sleeps with socks if he's in a sleeper without feet; and a wearable blanket. On some nights he feels extra cold, so I'll pop on a little night cap.

Oh Happycake, lol ... my daughter is exactly the same!
She is 15 months old and has NEVER wanted anything over her.
When the cooler weather started here a couple of months ago I would sneak in later in the night before I went to bed and would put a blanket over her.
Only took me a couple of nights to realise that it was causing her to wake up!! Lol ... I soon stopped bothering to try and cover her up.
And then just two nights ago my mother was here for dinner and as I was seeing her out the door I heard my little girl wake up .... even though I have told my mum that Abbie does not like having a blanket over her my mum obviously thought she knew better and had covered her up!!! Grrrrr.
So after her bath ...
I dress her in a singlet
then an 'all in one' with long sleeves but no legs
then a pair of flanalette PJs
and a pair of socks
and then when she is ready to actually go to bed I put her in a sleeping bag thingy with long sleeves over the top of everything else.
I was worried about her getting cold when winter started but we are nearly at the end of it all and she has survived just fine :-)
I'm sure your little boy will be just fine too :-) ... just put a couple of layers on him!

Just let him have no blanket for a while, then if you see that he got to cold that night in the morning, use thin sheets. Dress him enough to not be sweating buckets at night but comfortable. I do not have a baby, but any of my friends' babies sleep under a blanket, but some of them have the same problem.

My daughter never had a blanket until fairly recently, until around 18mths when we moved her from a crib to a toddler bed. Before that she had a baby 'sleeping bag'... that's not the right name for it but I dont know what they call it in english (a 'gigoteuse' in french). In France they recommend not using blankets/sheets until 18mths+, so I just followed the advice as we were living there at the time. They worked great, and depending on summer or winter they came with sleeves or without, thick or quite thin fabric. On very warm days she went without one and had just her PJ's on, but usually we'd zip her into it. Try finding one of those, they are great. I had a friend send me one from the States, so I know you can find them there too.

You do not need to be worry... you just have to let them wear the correct clothing for sleeping... You might not know when will your child wil kick the blanket away. Maybe he will suddenly sleep under the blanket, then he might out of breath. So by the time you cannot do anything... till now...try not to give him any blanket....they are not used to it that somehing on top on them.. Now my 4 years old girl just want to have her blanket. so it is still early for them...

I don't use blankets for saftey reasons, my baby is only 3 weeks old, and its summer here, so at night i put him in a light weight footed sleeper, so he stays warm, but not too warm, in the winter I will get some heavier material footed sleepers so he stays warm, blankets just scare me!

Have you tried a Growbag for him? They are fantastic! Mine has just worked out how to get his blanket over him during the night - is 17 months old.
