Here is how to solve it:

First, try analyzing the problem. Break it down into an equation.
20% of $45=y (*of means to multiply)
0.20 x 45 = y (since 20% means out of hundred)
(Then multiply the 2 #s)
9= y
Now, you just need to subtract the 9 from $45 because you want that much amount to be taken from your original amount.
The answer is: 45-9= $36
To solve the next problem, u do the same thing:
20% of $65= y
0.20 x 65= y
13= y
Take $13 away from the original amount.
The answer is 65-13=52

Hope this is helpful!

Well 20% of 45 would be $9 dollars off and 20% of 65 would be $13 off. I'm not good at math, but I am a bartender and I figure out % so I know what kind of a tip I recieved. The way I do it is say something is $50 with 10% off, what I do is place a . in front of the .50 and for 10% I move it over one spot. Which would be 5.0. That means it would be $5 dollars off. If its 20% it would be $10, 30% would be $15 off and so forth. I'm not very good at explaining things so I hope this helps.

$36.

you mult. $45 x .20 (20%) and you get 9.
so then you subtract the 9 from 45.

for the $65 it would be $52.
$65 x .20 = 13
65 - 13 = 52

20% = 20 / 100 = 1 / 5

20% of $45 = $9 (divide by 5)
Will cost $45 - $9 = $36

20% of $65 = $13 (divide by 5)
Will cost $65 - $13 = $52

so to find out what your final price will be...
1. you subtract that % discount that you have from 100%
2. multiply the answer by the cost
3. to include tax, multiply the answer to (2) by 100% + %
tax

so for example, you have 20% discount on a $45 item

1. 100% - 20% = 80%

2. 80% * $45 = 0.80 * $45 = $36

(80% is the same as 0.80)

3. say the tax is 5%, so your very final answer would be...

(100% + 5%) * $36 = 105% * $36 = 1.05 * 36$ = 37.80$

good luck
