These people are ridiculous. You can wear black to a wedding. Wear comfy shoes if you will be taking the pics. If you are still unsure. Try to match the color of the wedding.

Usually black is not an appropriate wedding outfit if it it solid black. If you wish to wear it, try accenting it with a scarf that has a design in it and not a solid color. You can have part of the design black but not the most prominent part of the design. You may even consider finding a hat that has one of the colors in the scarf and put the scarf around the brim of the hat. Or, wearing a belt and matching gloves and hat of another color can accent the dress as well. Then the black dress is fine. Sometimes even some beads jewelry for the neck with matching earrings and gloves can accent the dress and allow you to get away with wearing it. Another possibility is to wear a jacket over the dress like a suit idea. Most people think of funerals when you wear black and you don't want to upset the apple cart it it may make the bride or groom and their families feel funny. The best way to see if the dress is fine is to bring the bride over and show it to her by saying something like, "What do you think of this dress for my attire at your wedding?" When you do that, include the accessories so that she can see the whole outfit. I'm sure by doing that, you will get a pleasant go ahead from her.

Ettiquette for wedding guest dress-interesting topic. It depends a lot on the style of the wedding and whether it is a daytime or evening affair. Black is appropriate and indeed recommended for a late afternoon/evening wedding. If the occasion and reception has a definite formal bent then by all means go with black-a smart cocktail dress and black shoes (something comfy for standing around taking photos) is perfect. If it is a daytime wedding a floral dress or light colored outfit is more appropriate. .

The trick is to look as hot as you can, without anyone noticing your look. Wear a subtle but stylish dress, a solid color, but other than black. Wear black pumps with some heel.
Be sure to smile at everyone!

all black to a wedding is inappropriate. if you can add some pieces of color to it. such as, light jacket, belt, or even a shawl, to balance out the black, it should be okay.

The only colour that is off-limits for weddings is white - you don't want to look like you're trying to out-do the bride!
