You are looking for a pretty large gain in power... and while there are routes you can go to get it, you have to keep in mind that doing so will be a trade off in other areas (most likely reliability). Given the cost involved to gain this power, the reduced longevity and reliability that would result, and the likely loss of value for resale, it would wind up being far less expensive to simply sell the V6 Cayenne and buy a V8 Cayenne S - where you then get the extra power, along with many other upgrades (and no negitives in reliability or value).

No disrespect meant, but the best way to get your 290hp is to sell that thing and get a vehicle that can actually stay out of the mechanics bay. The Cayenne is barely ranked above the Toureg for reliabilty, and that means next to dead last. So unless you need it for the stuatus symbol factor, sell it before depreciation burns your butt, and invest that money in something else.
If you need an SUV, the Infinity FX45 delivers 320 hp stock, the BMW X5 can come w/350hp stock, and the Acura MDX delivers 300hp. And all of these are amazingly reliable, refined day to day vehicles that can still get up and play the SUV big boys. only fhr Grand Cherokee SRT is more powerful stock, but it too tends to break alot. Plus all these others have healthy aftermarket support.
If you don't need a SUV, buy a Caymen S, and use the left over money to get a people hauler.
Lastly, if you gotta keep your Cayenne for some reason, here is the classic racing formula for more power:
MONEY=SPEED

It depends on how deep yur pocket is... The cheapest ways are like new cold air systems and a new performance exhaust. If it uses one of those computers like Hypertech, use it.. For the mo' deeper bank a/c's, think on a turbo charger (c if u can get it on the exhaust[mo' power]) or a supercharger (change spark plugs n mayb fuel injectors), even a bottle of my little fren-the nitrous. the t/chrger n the s/charger requires an intercooler.. I luv Cayennes so tell me how it went>>
It would b nice if u could upgrade 2 the S, but i think its best u let a prof do the upgrades i mentioned
