Government has been, and probably always will be corrupt. You are the last to know because you elect an official and assume that they will do what's in your best interest. Why? Every important civil rights movement in US history has been a reaction AGAINST the government, not action taken by the government.

There's always something fishy going on with the government -- usually, though, the fishy things number in the tens of thousands. We're the last to know, though, because the vast majority of us simply wait for the newspapers to tell us, rather than actively researching and uncovering the putridness. It's a nasty little disease I like to call laziness; people who want accountability in government should really get off their substantial derrieres and look for the creepy things.

Fishy? I call it lack of accountability. It seems that an administration like our current one has too much to lose by being honest with the American people. If we are in court and refuse to answer questions....we are held in contempt and end up in jail.
The atty general may have fired these US attorneys because they didn't get a politically motivated case (against certain Dems) on time. Now he's trying to spin his way out of this mess....
Cheney with his "secretive", energy deals....totally secret because it would literally show the conflict of interest he so quietly support in order to help fill his friends' as well as his own pockets....He keeps things under the rug because he knows the American people wouldn't stand for it.
His doctrine is, "what they don't know won't hurt them".
Bush and his statement, "It is time to restore some decency in the executive office". So hypocritical.
The war in Iraq wasn't a just one, it was based on lies...
But now we are there, and we are responsible for leaving that country when it can stand on its own feet.
We pulled the extremists in and tied them down in Iraq....
just by occupying that country....it is time to finish the job
surge the troops and get her done!
I am a Dem....and feel we need to defeat the extremists....a defeat for them = Iraq with a proficient and effective gov't, military, Police and infrastructure.
To thise who think we should cut and run....think years head....don't get caught up in the fact the reason for deploying was based on a lie....what's done is done...
let's finish the job.
Once election time comes around....get the fools off Capitol Hill and out of the Whitehouse!
And to those who vote a certain way because mommy and daddy did.....think for your self!
Long live the US Military!!!

That's the nature of a secretive govt -- one that claims to know what's best for the citizens, and therefore feels no obligations to keep the citizens informed with the facts.
That's pretty much universal -- anything else would requiring knowing which country you are in.

Use the internet. Sadly enough it's the most trustable source of information in our world. We don't know cause the media catters to the majority and the majority is dumb, very very dumb. Oh God, this world is scary.
