It's an illegal drug!
You can do unique, but this name draws the line.

The way I look at thgis is that your child will have to live with her name for LIFE or at least she is old enough to change her name legally. There are many things people dont realize or consider when naming their child. How hard is it for them to learn to write and spell? When they start school, they need to be able to keep up with their peers and meet guidelines set by each state. When children have unusual names, not only can their own name be difficult for them but for others also. Another reason is ridicule and teasing! My name growing up was Tracy King. It is different now- cause I changed it. But from the earliest school age, I was called Tracy king kong, ding dong, dick tracy, and so on. I learned very young to hate my name! I am soooooooo glad I wasnt called Marywanna. If not even taking into consideration the fact I would have been named after a drug, but think of all the teaseing like Marywanna do this with me??? Those type of things can create low esteem and poor self image. Plus you have to deal with all the comments or thoughts YOU are going to get as the person who CHOSE this name for your child! Now any name could be turned into something undesirable, but some names are worse than others and can, from the day their born, be turned into something not very nice at all. My mom would always presure me into names she wanted. I finally had to tell her, those names are nice, but you already got to name your children, now its my turn to pick names for my children! Then my husbands bright idea was to name one of our sons Daniel. The problem was the way he spelled it. DANYAL Simple enough and doesnt seem harmful but one of the reasons he hates going new places is because people pronounce it as if he is a girl or when he finally responds to his name, they say, Ohhhhh we thought you were a girl! This we have worked diligently to try to make him see the funny side and try to ease his hurt feelings. It is his decision if he wants to change the spelling legally and we will support that. Best wishes and I have confidence you will end up with a name that both of you will cheerish!

Although it was creative, it is not a good move. Save that name for your pet dog or cat. Your child will be guilty until proven innocent. Let her go to the park and the trooper smells weed...how can she say she wasn't the one smoking when her name is Marywanna. Don't do it.

I know it is probably hard for younger persons to believe, but as a line from a song says, what is hip today will some day become passe. I think this naming children names that are unusual but not really unique is a fad, and someday there will be too many Apples and Oranges.

Marywanna sounds awful, sorry, nothing against what it's related to, just not a name for a real person. Not classy or elegant enough! Keep thinking! How about:
Oceana Blu
Sahara Breeze
Amythea Bliss
Summer Raine
Amora Tru
Marquee Starr or Marqui Starr
Good luck!

I think "no"; it's too similar to Marijuana. You don't know if your child will be shy and conservative and hate an unusual, "artsy" name or whether she'll be like you and relish the name. So, if you want to give her a name like that, I'd say make it her middle name. My 3 kids have all ended up (so far) more conservatve than me. I was glad I chose normal names for two of them. They would have been embarrassed by unusual names. But even my more adventurous middle child wishes she had a more "normal", traditional name, and her name isn't that unusual. So, I say play it safe (for their sake)! --- Char

Why should you ask such a question? Is that what you learned to do in theater? If you have a boy and a girl you could name them
MaryJane and Doobie
Crystal and Methaneil
Craquel and Weedlow
Talk about being made fun of for the rest of their life.

Clearly you've been smoking too much "marywanna" if you want to name your kid after it.

Would you name her "Crack?"
Or would you prefer maybe "Heroin?"
There are many nicer variations for "Mary." Obvously you know the answer to your question. When you name a child don't name her for a wild impulse you have--give her a name she'll be proud to have people call her by.
And I don't think that would be "Marijuana."

If you want to label her for the rest of her life then sure! Go ahead. If you would prefer her to not have to deal with 20 years of therapy I would suggest something that shows her you care for her.
