P.S. - I'm tryna learn bout cars, anyone know a site that does'nt make it complicated?

This is not the 100% right way, but it will be close and where you can understand..

You have a crankshaft ( a shaft in bottom of engine) that turns.. The pistons are hooked to crank via a rod.. The pistons fits into a hole in the engine..

The air and fuel comes into engine, and lands on top of the piston.. The piston and rings keeps the air/fuel from going down into the oil..

Then the spark plug sparks and the air/fuel blows up.. That helps to force the piston down and turns the crank so the next piston comes up..

Being the piston is tight in the hole and engine is sealed.. The piston compresses the air thats in the hole real tight..

That extra compressing of the air helps to pack more air into the hole and helps the air/fuel to explod more/stronger

The engine pistons transmit gas pressure to the con-rods and crankshaft. - They make it go.
Brake pistons transmit hydralic pressure to the pads. - They make it stop.
