800 - 7000 + 7 - 11 = -6204

Strictly speaking, you should use the following list of priorities: Brackets first, then indices (or 'powers' if you wish), then multiplication/division, and finally addition/subtraction.
Ok, let's do that. No brackets or powers to concern us, so we do the multiplications (there are no divisions here either).
100x8=800, and 1x7=7.
This leaves us with 800-7,000+7-11 which gives -6,204.
However, some cheap calculators (as well as those on mobile phones) treat each 'operation' as an individual problem to be answered in its own right before going on to the next.
100x8=800
800-7,000= -6,200
-6,200+1= -6,199
-6,199x7= -43,393
-43,393-11 = -43,404
This is wrong, but it's what a mobile phone will give you. The correct answer is -6,204.

you do the multiplication first, so
100x8 - 7,000 + 1x7 - 11
becomes
800 - 7000 + 7 - 11
800 - 6996 = -6196
to general_ego, you state that mulitplication occurs before addition and then you do exactly the opposite. Please, what is 7000 plus 7 minus 11? I think 6996 so then subtract 800 from that. why is this so difficult? are people so thick these days or what??

(100x 8) = 800
(1x7)=7
800-7,000 + 7-11=
multiply through by -1
-800+7,000-7+11=
7004
-800
____
7000-796= 6204

I seem to remember from my school days a thing called BODMAS an acronym for Brackets, Division,Multiplication,Addition,Subtraction which defines the order in which mathematical operations are carried out.
So
100*8-7000+1*7-11
Becomes 800-7000+7-11
Then 800-7007-11 = -6218 I think!!
