So the US Presidential election is what a whole year away, so why not put down the fan fare (which bores the rest of the World to death !) and focus on rebuilding your own decimated economy, because you arn't faring to well for a "Super Power" on balance of trade and foreign exchange issues, with a plummeting $US
I'm far more concerned with Australias up coming Federal election next month where we elect to retain our current Prime Minister and follow the US path, or turn to Labour and a change of Government after 11 years of John Howard Leadership ! Either way the US will remain the same, but the imlications for us in Australia are far more immediate. Please stop boring the rest of the World to death US !

wow this got a bit of a hasty response from the yanks... its true the americans are always trying to put on a show... its their way "look at me, look at me im american" they probably think the rest of the world cares when really we are thinking "piss of you tosspot"
as for their economy.. what do you expect from a country that spends half its yearly budget on its defense force??
as for our election i dont believe john howard is half as bad as he is being potrayed.. he has been one of our finest PMs as Peter Costello has been our finest treasurer.. the record speaks for itself...
so to anyone who wants labour to win bc ur struggling to buy a house of whatever... if labour wins remember who u voted for when u cant afford to pay the house off bc of labours continual economic mismanagement

Yo Wayne-ster
It's not like we TARGET you for information "blitz" on the subject of OUR elections or anything else for that matter --
Everyone is (or should be) concerned with what is going on within their own governments and that is OUR right as much as it is your's !!
It just so happens, that the way it goes within the U S A's political outcomes has extremely far reaching impact around the globe on so many levels that it is difficult to list !! And, YOUR media is as responsible for reporting on that as any one else !!
It IS quite interesting here that you assume the position as spokesman for the WORLD in talking about how our discussions, about our elections "bore the rest of the world to death" as if the rest of the world had no choice but to listen !! It bores you -- turn it off !! We happen to be in an extremely critical position of late -- one that DEMANDS close and careful inspection and introspection and we will do what we have to do no matter how that's taken by you or anyone else !!!
It would be VERY wise for Australia to consider an end to their support of this current administration though -- for it has all but gone completely rabid for power and sees US as "having the right" to invade and conquer anyone anywhere that disagrees with "us" on anything !! And, if THAT doesn't concern YOU , you need to rethink the things that DO concern you !!!
A final word to you (to the wise ?) --- we may be in an economy that is having some troubles of late -- but I should remind you and everyone else -- that the best ticket for a strong economy within the USA in recent decades has been all out -- full blown WAR --- that's something else that should concern you and every other human being on the planet !!!!

Buddy, the US$ has been in the negative for quite some time now. That don't mean ****.
Also, YOU may be "bored to death" but this is OUR future in our hands. Just as whatever the hell you're talking about in Australia is [I'm sure] important to you, I could care less. So we're even. Hope everything goes well in your election though. Peace. ♥

Have they actually called for an election in Australia? I know its nearing the end of the Parliament, but unless it was today I must have missed it.
The reason you hear a lot about the U.S. election is because you are hearing about the primaries (the process for choosing or presidential candidate). Unlike Australia or other parliamentary countries, we do not have a permanent leader of the opposition already chosen to run in the next election. Thus, the election that we are talking about is not next Novembers, but the one that will take place in January and February. In addition, some of the key pre-election events, such as debates and other mechanisms for weeding out non-contenders before voting begins, have already started.
I wish we had as short an election process as you have, but we don't.

I'm not the one publicizing the election, I couldn't give a rats tushie until next year either. And unfortunately in our "democracy" we can't do anything about our crap economy. We would like it to be better too. But we call for a better economy, and the gas prices go up, the cost of living goes up, and so do the taxes, just to fund a war that should have been over 3 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I support our men and women over there, but the war was SUPPOSED to be short. Our men and women need to come home, and our president needs to get his head out of his butthole.

Fascinating.
Please tell us more.
Might you try to get hired on as a stringer for the LA Times or the NYT or Chicago Tribune?
We Yanks could use a good reporter over in Oz to set us straight.
Or you could just do a blog.
Seriously, I would subscribe.
I feel so very ignorant of what's going on Down Under.
Thanks for the question.
So do I understand rightly that you are pro-Labour?

If the rest of the world wants to listen to our media, that's their problem. We are gonna talk about it and not suspend our political debate in observance of yours. Sorry, but who is arrogant? Watch your own telly then.
