They told me at the dealership that after 600 miles my Kawasaki klx250 would need to get a routine maintenance....im guessing this will be kinda expensive....because, all mechanic crap is....do anybody have any idea what they are planning to do and if i would be able to do it myself to save some money?

The first 600 Mi. is like a 'shakedown period` and the maintenance check is nothing complex. (May involve a change from 'break-in` to 'spec` oil, but thats been changing lately.)
The advantage of having the dealer do this first check is that he knows what incipient problems to look for. It might be worth the tarriff to have a pro do the first one, especially if they will let you watch & give you some pointers. (Most dealers won't but it never hurts to ask.)
If you're a confident wrench, by all means buy a manual & DIY, but do look carefully at all the points listed as "inspect" in the shop manual.

I do pretty much agree with what the guy above me said, but let's actually answer your question. It cost me $119.
Drain and filter transmission hydraulic fluids.
Change engine oil and filter.
Those are the only things of real substance that they do.
They then just go around an check every nut and bolt for snugness and check cable tensions and adjust if needed.
I know it seems like BS. But really if you have problems with the bike later on down the rode while under warranty, it just makes any argument that it wasn't due to neglect null and void. It's a big cover your *** just incase inspection. Afer this first one I will be doing all my own basic maintainance.

This is dealer welfare and unecessary. Invest in the service manual for the bike and do the maintenance yourself. Kawasaki sells service manuals online at Kawasaki.com. Good luck.
