If you know your friend well, and know that he won't be offended or feel bad by having you ask then its fine.
If you think the person will react badly, or if you don't know them very well then i would probably stay away from a question like that.

Depends on what type of friends you are. But you're most likely not going to be getting a straight answer - most teenage guys probably won't admit to it, if they are.

Why bother? He might be offended, and he's not likely to tell the truth anyway, so you still won't know. Why would you care whether he is or not anyway?
