Do you know right away? Do you just figure it out after a while? Or do you just get along with your girlfriend and like her alot and go for it and hope you're right?

I dont really think there is any 'one'..... really, our society lays too much stress on perfection and on finding an ideal.
There are people you are attracted to, people you connect with. Any one of them could be a long term partner; but all relationships take work, patience, self awareness and maturity to survive and flourish. A lot also depends on circumstances- being in a position to have a happy relationship, your needs matching. Sometimes you might find a great person but you might want to go to very different places and do different things with your life.
So in a sense its a little bit of luck, a lot of chemistry, lots of laughter and fun, a mix of circumstances and some hard work. Miracles do need polishing once in a while!
Go for it with a smile, a prayer and common sense.

I knew pretty close to right away-I think it took me all of a week, and then I was a goner. We never went through all that break up and get back together thing, and it's been 11 years since we met (the last 7 of them as man and wife). Incidentally, if you just like your girlfriend but don't love her too, I wouldn't recommend going for it and hoping you're right. I mean, I don't always like my husband, but I always love him.

brother, trust me, you will know it, without a doubt, positively, 100%, absolutely, for sure, when you find it. dating is fine, but if you dont feel that this is "the one" then it is not. trust me. i have had several wonderful women for long term relationships. and i could have married half of them, but for some reason it didnt work that way. then, i met the love of my life. didnt know it then, but i was crazy about her from the start. then one day i noticed her as a goddess, and i knew i had to be close to her. I knew her for years but wasn't close to her, then after seeing her inner beauty, and after dating a short time, one night while on a getaway with her, she did something silly, and i knew that second she was the only woman i would ever be interested in again. do yourself a big favor, unless you feel that your partner is the one, dont get married. establish that before you settle. trust me, it will be worth the wait, and i waited until i was 40 searching for her, and then there she was.

I knew right away when our eyes met. The intensity of the moment was nothing I could ever describe in words. I was completely swept away by her beauty, her smile, her eyes, and her voice. I do not think you know. You just have to take a chance and hope and have faith that this is the one based on feelings and actions from both parties.

It's not really something you can explain to another person...you just know. I had only been officially dating my husband for a month before I knew. And we've been happily married for 2 years now :-)

i didnt really know i thought it was just a crush but he was the one and i couldnt leave his side and if i did leave him for just a few hours i would be sad all day and sometimes i would cry myself to sleep knowing that im not right there with him i missed him to much and all i wanted to do was see him and talk to him all the time and then i realized i couldnt spend my life with out him i didnt have to be with him i needed to be with him.

I thought I knew as well then after 17 months she up and left....my moral of the story you never ever will.....keep up good lines of communication and maybe you'll get thru it
