I agree with the following quote, by Michael J. Fox:
"I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence I can reach for; perfection is God's business."

perfectionism can certainly be a heartache. From our perspective we feel we can never attain perfection, but it certainly exists. There are perfect equations, perfect circles, perfect music notes, perfect heartbeats and there was that one chick in high school...... Anyway, in one sense we already are perfect because everything in the universe is as it should be and what we really strive for is to be in perfect rhythm with it. You have a perfectly thoughtful mind my friend. peace

I personally use it as a drive to get through life.Sort of like a smiley post-it note reminder to dark chapters. But,I'm aware that nobody will ever reach it.So,I think it's a positive drive force as long you know that is only an aspiration, not an objective.

I believe perfection is relative JC. One man's perfection may not be another's. So I suppose you can strive for and reach a level of perfection that is just yours.
Ok that probably didn't make any sense, but I knew what I was trying to say :)

Yes it is a trap . . . just heartache. There is no such thing as "perfect". I do believe that I should always do my best, so that drives me. But perfection, no, that won't be achieved.

I think it's a mental trap because no matter how much you strive for it perfection is something that cannot be reached.

perfection can be a trap. this can happen by striving for prefection, but realizing that you want more until you quit it. then you have the mental trap that is- you have to be a certain people and not yourself.

Headache-
there is no such thing as truly perfect. People say there is, but there isn't. All one can do is their best, and no more. Best creates drive.
