To start with, I think it all depends on what KIND of plant you have and planted just the roots. Alot of roots are bulbs and if this is the case, yes, your plant will grow from its roots.
If it was not a bulb, depends on what type of plant again.

I know I have planted a piece of Peace Plant root and it grew into a beautiful plant. I also have some elephant ears that have grown big without the bulbs, but later developed their own bulbs. And I have planted some leaves from certain plants and they have grown. (African violets).

Go figure.... LOL

Best of luck to you and your plant.

It depends on the plant. If you buy a chunk of horseradish at the supermarket and use only part, you can plant the remainder in your garden. It will take root and you can keep getting fresh horseradish for decades. You can also plant a garlic clove (it is part of the root) and it will take to become a new bulb.

no it will not. a plant grows from the seed into roots into a plant. it gets nutrition from its roots but alsot needs sun from its leaves and/or flower to grow which it is not getting because you cut that part off. it is essential for the plant to grow.
