Rule of thumb, Whether dealing with Single Core or Dual Core processors, they are all rated at their unmodified peak operating speeds. If its a dual core as you state here, that just means for the processor you received, you have 1 chipset that houses 2 separate equally powered 1.4ghz processors, were it a single core processor it would still be rated as a 1.4ghz processor. Processors speeds are never added together whether it is two single core processors mounted on a motherboard or a single chipset dual core processor. I guess what I am trying to relate would be similar to you having a liter of coke in each hand, just because the combined total of the two equals 2 liters, you don't actually have a two liter in your hands.

A twin-middle CPU has 2 cores working interior an identical unit. for this reason, that's like working 2 a million.8ghz CPUs. A a million.8ghz twin-middle CPU is definitely greater advantageous and quicker than a a million.8ghz unmarried-middle CPU. although, the fee you benefit relies upon on the courses. If the courses are twin-middle like minded (multithreaded), then you somewhat will see a extensive boost in speed (virtually double). Many video games in recent times are being created which could take great thing approximately multi-middle processors. despite in case you haven't any multithreaded courses, you will nevertheless be conscious a speed boost because of the fact the working equipment can run distinctive courses on each and each middle.

i dont know who told Jeffrey that but its total crap,

dual core means that you have a processor with two cores, both running at 1.4GHz.

You cant really add them up as it is not a accurate measure of speed.

No a Dual core running at half the speed is not quite as powerful as a Single core running at twice the speed.

No not so, a more complex answer lies in what kind of program with its programming is used on the Dual Core machine but never exceed 2.8 GHz in total although with right programming faster than that.

no.. means you have 1.4ghz.. one core is at about 700 mghz and the other is 700 mghz... it's energy efficient and uses less heat when it's running like that...
