in runescape whats better a rune sword or a rune scimitar

A rune longsword is more powerful, you will be able to hit slightly higher than with a rune scimitar, the rune scimitar however is faster and because of this most people prefer to use it for pk'n.

I think it is best to use a rune scimitar for fast attacks with a rune battleaxe to do large damage when you need it.

That really depends on what your fighting. Different creatures have different weaknesses. Some are weak aginst crush ( axe's , maces & longs ) some more to slash ( scimitar, shorts , longs ) some to stab ( dagger , spear, rapier ) some to magic & range. A smart player knows his opponents weakness and picks the appropriate weapon. While the scimitar has better slash & is quicker the long is a better all around weapon.
I personally keep at least 1 of each weapon type. For members its almost necessary since certain creatures can only be hurt by one type of attack.

Scimmy. It's attacks as much as a sword but faster.

rune scimmy gives more bonus but i would recomend the scimmy cause its faster and more reliable
