(x^1/3 + x^-1/3)^2
= x^2/3 + 2(x^1/3 x^-1/3) + (x^-1/3)^2
-----> x^1/3(x^-1/3) = x^(1/3-1/3) = x^0 = 1
-----> (x^-1/3)^2 = x^2/3
= x^2/3 + 2(1) + x^2/3
= 2x^2/3 + 2 or 2(x^2/3 + 1)
