After giving Malaca and Penang to the Dutch, the British needed a trading port in Malaysia. Raffles chose Singapore as the ideal spot but they required an infrastructure to support the activity. Indians have long been known as good book keepers and were imported to perform that function. They also brought in many to fulfill military and police duties.

In recent years India has been a source of semi-skilled labor as well as skilled. Unfortunately many of those you see in little India have been brought in by agents who are interested only in their commission. These people are often brought in on a tourist visa and given the basic minimums for subsistence while they seek employment. They often become victims of false documents and run the risk of jail and caning when found out. Over the years I've lived in Singapore I've read of many over-stayers being convicted and sentenced but not one agent.

Dude, there are almost a billion people in India. Indians are everywhere.

Many Indians are highly educated. Poor ones are likely given jobs by other Indians or they are doing the crappy jobs that the Singaporeans are too rich or lazy to do.

Doesn't Singapore have Chinese, Malay, Thai ect. people living there as well? This is what is happening all over the world. Embrace it and enjoy it.

For sure they all entered Singapore through the various Immigration Checkpoints.

Jobs don't go to them automatically. They had applied for the jobs earlier and were granted work permits which their employer/s had obtained.

Although southern Indians may be poor, they are resourceful to be able to finance their trip here.
