Bush and the administration lied and said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. They used that as an excuse to attack.
Then, when it was revealed that it was a lie, they started talking about terrorists, hoping American people would forget that the terrorists were not from Iraq.

Let me ask you this general since you have so much wisdom in the art of war. Let's say that we do catch Osama..... then what do you we do? Does this mean that we have eradicated the problem of Islamic fundamentalism from the middle east? Do you realize that capturing a figurehead is not always the most important objective when fighting a war. We never captured Hitler or Hirohito and we still won that war. This premise that if we catch Osama everything will be as good as new again is absurd and just plain ignorant.

The evidence that Saddam may still possess chemical arsenals was overwhelming - this evidence came from all over the world. Even his own troops believed he had WMD's.
After the events of 9/11, Bush and his advisers could not afford to assume that these weapons would not eventually find their way into the hands of terrorists.
All of the criticism you hear now is based entirely on the advantage of hindsight - unfortunately, this is a luxury not present at the time the tough decisions have to be made.

OIL, OIL and OIL.
Just have this in mind. Whatever explanation any one gives you plus the issue of OIL, then make your own conclusion.
This is not the first attempt for US to get oil and certainly not the last! however you could catch-up with the history of US in search of OIL in the last century to get some idea.
Having said that, bush, a genius that is!!! done this search in the most horrific, bloodiest, clueless and witless manner possible!
I should also bring this to your attention that, there're also other reasons behind this foolish and unjust invasion.
Regional domination, provide proper support to Israel, stay put if in case Iran and Syria burst out, finally and surely, TO SOME, war always is profitable!!

Because IRAQ has tons of oil.
Dubya and his handlers wanted to invade Iraq long before 911.
911 was a gift from God to them.
They could blame it on IRAQ.
Present a shocked country with scary false intelligence.
Put Afghanistan on the back burner.
They don't want it to end. They are war profiteers.
Somebody making a heap of money on this WAR.
Soldiers and civilians are nothing but abstractions.
Dead soldiers and dead civilians are dead abstractions.
They want us in IRAQ for the next 100 years or until the oil runs out.

This really has nothing to do Osama. This has to do with an excuse to hand our Military over to the UN. We needed an "emergency" so that the people would get behind the patriot act and the various UN resolutions. Little by little we are trading our freedoms for security that isn't even real. Let's stop the madness and write to your congressmen and tell them to put pressure on the president to get us out of Iraq and the UN now.

Because Saddam did not adhere to the UN sanctions set on him after the first gulf war and France and Germany were undermining those sanctions with the oil for food scandal so we took charge. Weapons or no weapons he needed to be slapped

As a person of Japanese descent, you should have a unique historical insight into this current issue. Things don't happen in a vacuum, and sometimes you turn to face another threat while the first still looms on the horizon. To those criticizing the fact we 'attacked Iraq while Osama is still at large', I might point out the obvious - In World War II, we decided to focus on the Germans and crush them completely before turning our attention to the Japanese (who were the ones after all who had actually attacked us). The two wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) are not mutually exclusive, and both will be dealt with in time.

A great question.... Really why are we in Iraq? All because the American People were misled and lied to by this administration... Saying they had WMD, which was false, Saying Al Quida was there in force, which was false.. It was all about Oil and it's backfired, and this administration continues to use scare tactics to American People about Iraq while Osama runs loose .. Gads when will it be over for this Administration, we need new people, new ideas, and new beginning.

well, because the people around GW were Cheney, Rumsfeld, Pearl and Wolfowitz ... ALL members of PNAC who had been planning a war on Iraq for many years, just waiting for 9/11, waiting for that "Pearl Harbor-like event" that would justify an attack on Iraq and a grab for all that oil.
PS. may not be any oil in Afghanistan but it sure makes a nice route for a pipeline.
