Is it that these mines are older and not being kept up to standards and are collapsing, or maybe that when these things happen, nat'l media has a special focus on these things after Sago??

The mine was located 20 miles from the epicenter of a 4.0 earthquake. The mine is equipped with enough food and water for the trapped men to hold out for several days. Sorry, but we out West are not in the same category as those ancient hell holes in Appalachia. There's no comparison.

The media learned long ago that tragedy sells Therefore, mine and bridge failures lead on television news and are placed "above the fold" in newspapers. Same thing with deaths and destruction from tornadoes, storms, etc.

I read where this company had 100's of offensives and fines againist them..
