Just curious. I know people who say they are afraid of dying but yet, drive like they are in a race or smoke and do drugs but are really afraid of death. What's the point to be afraid of the end if you take the present for granted

People are afraid of death because they don't know anything about it. People see that as not taking the present for granted. At the present they are not afraid of death because that is not waht is on their minds. at that time they are afraid of being late or they have some other reason ro driving like that.

Once you face extreme pain or trauma life becomes more than just a chance. I am looking forward to death in the sense that it will bring closure to this entity. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of things I want to get done before that day. I am going to have to put my dog down soon and that is more of a challenge than facing my own death. I have a real hard time with the idea of taking a life, even from a pet.

There is nothing good in the physical realm associated with dying. I don't think it is the actual dying they are afraid of but the means to it. If the best is saved for last death may be the ultimate life experience, and the beyond fantastic. Lets hope so! If you are a christian you gotta believe it and hold on to your faith.

Good Point. I think people fear death because it's the fear of the unknown. If you know any really religious people, chances are, they will not be affraid of dying, because they truely believe and know in their minds and hearts that they are going to "heaven" or whatever they believe in, after they die.
I don't fear death really, but I do know that I'm not ready to die yet. I have a family, and am raising two small boys, and would like nothing more than to watch them grow up. :)

Good question I hope you find your answer

It's simply because you have no control of death. People risk death because they are aware they are taking the risk, thus having some control of their end.
As everyone else says, it's also the fear of the unknown, what's past this life if anything?
Others fear dying because of obligations left unattended.
But it's mostly due to no control from the Grim Reaper.

i think people are afraid of death because they are afraid of the unknown. Human being came to this world and all we know is in the world and the thought that we will die and go elsewhere scares people especially when it deals with where your soul might go to. My theory of why people still act wild when still fearing death is that they want to escape their current problem which might be stronger than the thought of death or that they feel that nothing will happen to them since they are young. Alot of people escape to deal with their problem(even with fear of death) by watching alot of television, drinking alot, or some other addictive habit(which include risky things). Hope this might answer your question

People can be really irrational like that. I think people are afraid of death because they are afraid of the unknown - what will happen to them afterwards. Perhaps some are afraid of the pain also. But what's the point of being afraid of something that is inevitable. It is best to prepare ourselves for that moment.

mostly because they think that death will be really far into the future. Most of the time people just take for granted that they will get to grow to a ripe old age and then die, not realizing that they could tempt fate by smoking, driving really fast, etc....

a lot of people do those things (smoke, drink, etc) because it is hard for them to deal with life. on the other hand, no one has ever lived to tell about the experience of death - so no one knows what it is like until it happens to them. its scary! but just bc a lot of people drink and smoke doesn't mean they take the present for granted. they just make bad decisions. you never know when death will occur, live your life and don't worry about others and their choices!

Well....I don't really understand people like that. But I do know that most people are afraid of death because it is a world of the unknown. No one has ever died then come back to tell us what it is like. That's why it is so scary. I'm a Christian so in my belief I am going to Heaven. But Others don't...they have no idea how they are going to spend eternity. And I must admit, it is a spooky feeling.
