First Aid Kit
Cell Phone
Blanket (at least one)
Road Flares
Jumper Cables
Flashlight
Water for drinking
Batteries
Extra Change of Clothing, tennis shoes and thick socks
Phone Card (in case your cell isn't working, your car battery is dead so you can't charge your phone and you have to use a pay phone)
Emergency Contact Numbers
I also carry an extra quart of oil, windshield wiper fluid, anti-freeze and a roll of paper towels. Also be sure to know where your spare tire is and make sure its in good condition. You should also have everything you need to change a tire as well.
That is just my opinion take it or leave it.

I would carry
1. a fire extinguisher, in case your car catches on fire.
2. a pair of shoes and socks, in case you break down, need to walk and you are wearing heels.
3. a blanket and a propane heater, in case you break down in the winter.
4. a flash light and a loaded handgun, in case you break down at night in the ghetto.
5. a camera to take pictures of your car if you are in an accident.
6. a can of gas and some tuna, in case you become lost in the desert.
7. a can of fix-a-flat, a spare tire, a jack, a lug wrench, and a hub-cap puller.
8. a spare fuel pump and a fuel filter. I got a new fuel pump, packed the housing with grease, sealed it in a ziplock bag and I carry it with me so it will be ready when necessary.
9. Clutch cable and accelerator cable. You may need all your tools with you, too, as well as a Bentley manual.

Road flares, jumper cables, flash light of some good power, tire gage, water or antifreeze, oil, and tranny fluid. Brake fluid should be in there too as well as some kind of neon vest and tire inflation stuff. Hope this helps!!!
