You should start by realizing that whatever good things happen in India today, actually happen to a minority of its population. The majority of Indians still live in villages and make a living by subsistence farming. Right now, the proportion of rural to urban population in India is 70/30. If India is to become a succesful industrial (and then post-industrial) nation, this ratio has to reverse in the next 30-50 years. The time to prepare the cities for it is now.
Same goes for basic education; India has gone to great lengths to ensure the availability of primary education (including girls' involvement); now is the time to repeat this success with the secondary education.
Infrastructure is another spotty area; privatizing telecommunications worked very well for India, but now something has to be done about water, electricity, and transportation to support the growth of the Indian economy. Whether it is another privatization, some sort or public-private partnership, or greater public investment is entirely up to the people of India.
Healthcare... where do I even begin? At the beginning, I guess; you can't aspire to become a developed nation and have less than half of all births attended to by a healthcare professional. Infant mortality rate of over 60 per 1,000 of live births is nothing to be proud of, either...

When Ashok Malhotra is raided by the CBI and not caught for a complete week, when sheila dikshit makes a statement only on the vip number plates and nothing else, when congress party 'high command'
( what a farce, a democratic country has a congress party whose leader is addressed to as 'high command')
summons the ministers to 10 janpath without making any statement on the daylight robbery conducted by the crook malhotra and biggers theives of the congress party then your question seems so naive and irrelevant!
This probe will go the same way as that of Khan ' havala king' of Pune. What a SHAME!
I agree with solidus completely.

India needs today the moral fabric in all its activities. This by itself will usher in the golden era which belonged to India historical fats prove this. The corruption and the corrput means to achiev the goals will be erased from the society. We the people have to play our part very consciouly, with total commitment and dedication. Keep the national interest before self. We are definitely the best people in the world but only commitment to the national cause. Let us raise and raise above selfishness, meanness and wickedness.

expectations are always high. but let us come down from ivory tower and be practical. compare ourselves with some african countries. we were not better than them few years back. now we have a place to sit in the front row, what better achievement one can expect. i still remember the days when we were talking about america but india was not the country americans were recognising for good or bad reason. but today india is the favourite destination for them. i admire everything about india including the inevitable red tapism and corruption!

First things first:
The first the foremost motive of fight for freedom was "Sampoorna Swaraj". The slogan "Swaraj (Self Rule) is my birth right" by Bal Gangadhar Tilak is fairly justified. refer - http://www.freeindia.org/biographies/tilak/
When India became independent, the British Rule returned "Sampoorn Swaraj" to the People of India.
But "Sampoorn Swaraj" was never passed on to The People of India. At that time, most people of India were less educated. Literacy ratio was extremely low. So it could be argued that people of India were not able to elect their leaders for higher positions like Prime Minister and President.
The democracy and electoral process we have in effect, is not SAMPOORN SWARAJ.
Yeh janta ke muh mein ek lollypop aur hath mein ek jhunjhuna hai.... isse zyaada kuch nahin.
But even after 60years of Independence, people of India can only elect MLAs and MPs at most. It is not in the framework of basic rights of People of India to elect their favorite leaders for ministorial positions. Election for Presidential Post by the People of India is far from expectation.
This is a serious flaw in governance and democracy. This is in no way justified and lawful. Rather, it is a clear violation of Human Rights as well.
It is only because of such flaws, that the ruling parties and politicians exploit the positions they retain and have always succeeded in guiding public mandate in their favor.
Electoral process is only a formality just to fool the public. This is also well known that most educated and honest people stay out of electoral process.
Hon'ble Professor Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam also had to withraw his nomination from the dirtiest politics and murkiest electoral process ever.
Briefly, electoral process needs many reforms at the earliest or else, growth and development of India is only a fantasy.

yea, India is booming,
but the the 1st thing India need is-
good toilet facilities in every home, district
-cleanse
-have to educate people not to throw the letter, rubbish
elsewhere. ( do they do that there, throwing rubbish
from the top floor or the passage bettween
the 2 building)
well I've never been to India, but my family's always say
very nice place, but no cleanse & proper toilet facilities
thats why we have to think twice to come to our mother
land.
hope you won't mind, being frank.

still need to achieve alot. no need of feeling proud. we couldnot sustain the pride of our nation of times of freedom struggle.
we need young dedicated leaders who can stick on peace and bring prosperity to nation.
still there are hunger deaths are there in country. and there are slums. if a boy or girl from a slum could answer this question from there home then we can be proud
