I have a GMC 98 1500 Serria
(305 engine what they call a baby vortex)
the gas gauge floats, and alot of times
just drops to E and stays there, and other
times it will go all the way to F and stay
there, (and I have about a 1/2 tank of gas).
The last 2 times that the gauge started doing
this, in about 6 months the fuel pump went out.
are these actually defective fuel pumps
( happened twice now) or could there be an
electrical problem causing them to go out.
When I first bought the truck I had it 3 years
before the fuel pump went out, but now it seems
about every 6 mos the gauge starts acting as
stated above. Thank you for any assistance you
may be able to offer in this matter

I own a 1991 Chevy 2500 and had to replace mine too.

About the only thing I can recommend is buying the OEM pump assembly. ($260) +/- I think they're made by Carter.

And don't let the gas tank run dry. EVER!!
