Yes,
You wouldn't have even asked this question if you didn't' feel that you were due something.
It is nice to be the good guy who supplies the transportation, but the high price of gas makes that expensive. I assume you or your parents aren't wealthy so this gas money is coming out of your pocket.
30 Minutes of driving isn't that much gas, but clearly this is a pattern where you help your friends out. It is only fair that they return the favor. How you calculate that is the hard part. I would try to estimate how often your friend is in the car going somewhere with you and use that as a basis. Or wait until you have a bunch of friends in your car and say; "I need to get some gas; everyone see what you can contribute." Tell them that you are staring this policy to help pay for their transportation. Clearly, if they go with you for a trip of two then the might want to give you a dollar. But, if it is a close friend who is almost always with you then they should chip in more like a $5 or $10.
It is your car and so your responsibility and the calculations don't take in account the cost of tune ups, oil changes, and repairs. The IRS sets a level between 7-10 cents per mile for business use of a car. If you use your personal car for your business and you take business trips in the car then you can deduct that from your business profit to calculate your tax. This is complicated and a big deal; too much to go over with your friends. They are not going to pay you their fair share of the gas, ever. Face that and then just get them to agree to chip in a little.
"I cart you guys all over creation, and I don't mind it. I am the one with the car. But, I can't keep paying the bills all the time, I need some help. Now I am not asking you to pay for half the gas I use or anything like that; I am just asking for a little help. Give me what you think is fair, but give me something or I can’t afford to keep going out with you guys." It is a reasonable request, and reasonable people will respond reasonable. However, you will never break even, accept that. “Look guys I am not trying make a profit here,I am not even hoping to break even, after all I am going with you and you guys are my friends. I just need some help here. I don’t want to ask, and this is the only time I am going to ask, but I am going to expect some help for gas from you guys from now on.”

When I was younger and got my licence before everyone Else they love driving around same thing as today so I put a donation sign on my ash tray and every time we went out they had to donate which could be what ever they could afford I only use this money when we need gas while all driving around some would put in heaps some would put in little but it all helped and we had lots of fun and usually at the end of the night we would all empty our spare change into the ash tray try it it works if your friends aren't using you.

If he doesn't have a car of his own, he's probably never put much thought into how much gas costs - especially in the past year and a half. Has he ever been with you when you filled up? Does he know how much it costs you to put a tank of gas in your car?
Bring it up politely - Just mention that it's getting really expensive to fill up the tank all the time . Let him know you're happy to help him out, but that it'd be great if he chip in a few bucks.

Yes! Definitely. I didn't get my license until I was 18 so when my friend would drive me around, I'd always fill up her tank entirely. Even if she didn't drive me that much, because I knew how far she lived from my house. And especially with how expensive gas is nowadays... he should really be giving you something. Even just $7. But SOMETHING!
If I were you, I'd mention it to him... say something like, "Hey, [insert name], since I've been driving us around so much, I'm low on gas, think you could split the tank with me?" Or something like that. Or you could just explain it to him. That might be best.
Either way... he needs to start helping out if he isn't going to drive himself.
Good luck!!!

First thing is before you pick up any friends let them know how long you plan to stay.It is your choice to make the rules, start saying things like I dont know if I can pick you up I am kind of low on gas and if they really want to go then they will pitch some money in.

It is very nice of you to offer to drive your friends around...but gas is not getting any cheaper.Maybe they do not realize...Start by making a joke about it and see how it goes...Or you can always work something else out...like you give them rides but once in a while they treat you to dinner,movies...if you like that.It is tough to say "no"to friends but you do not have to drive them all the time if you do not feel like it.Hope you, guys work something out.Good luck!

yes he should. and ou shouldnt have to ask for it but usually you do have to ask or people will not ever give you a dime for gas. Its rude of friends and it kinda hurts my feelings when I have to ask for gas money. you can tell him next time that you dont have any gas in your car and if he wants to ride he will have to buy gas or it wont go because you are out of gas money. it works.
