You should have your band director check out the shape of your lips, etc., and try you on several types of mouthpieces (woodwind and brass) to see what you make the best sound on.

While it is true woodwinds have more keys, in a lot of ways, brass is actually more of a challenge because your ear has to be better.

Because of your piano heritage, this will likely be less complicated for you than probably the most youngsters who don't have any different musical reviews. If you're watching for a assignment, French Horn is without doubt one of the such a lot tricky devices to grasp and an excessively well French Horn participant is totally coveted by way of band administrators. If you're curious about studying anything that might make you extra marketable in a rock and roll band or a acting band of that nature, you would opt for up the drums. Drummers that may learn tune are VERY wanted. You will likely be in a position to play the xylophone and different devices with out a issues. Have a laugh with it!

You have 3 main sections to choose from first. These would be: Brass, Woodwind, and Percussion. Trumpet is an example of a Brass instrument. Flute is an example of a woodwind and drums are one of many types of percussion instruments.

If it were me, I'd choose French Horn from the Brass section.

If I had to choose a woodwind, I'd go with the clarinet.

I'd only play percussion if were held hostage and forced to. lol.

Really though, you should listen to some band music and get a feel for which instrument you could see yourself really 'jammin" on and go with that. Good luck

I suggest something you think you might enjoy. Brass has fewer keys. Wood wind can be more of a challenge with some pieces. What do you like to hear? Play that.

school band: percussion or bass (there's never enough bass section)

garage/rock band: piano/keybord or (again) bass because (again) there's never enough of either.
