You probably won't need a bib until the baby starts on "solid" foods between 4 and 6 months old. Or when he starts to teethe because they tend to drool a lot. You will need burp cloths though. That can be a cloth diaper, a small hand towel or a receiving blanket and the hospital will more than likely have that covered. They have loads of receiving blankets so if he spits up a bit while you're burping him, you can just ask the nurse for another one next time. Besides, if you take your own, what are you going to do with it if he does spit up? The hospital won't wash it for you and you'll be stuck with a spit up covered cloth. All you need to take for the baby is some clothes to wear home, a blanket and maybe a pacifier.

Most babies don't need a bib when breastfeeding, however, some babies do drool and dribble a little, especially if they are falling asleep at the breast. Also, some little ones tend to drool and spit up often after eating. It wouldn't hurt to get a couple of bibs now, just in case you have your little one in a special outfit, and want that extra layer of protection. I wouldn't bother packing one for the hospital, though.
Good Luck!

generally, because the way that babies latch on when breastfeeding, they don't tend to lose any of the milk. You may need a burp cloth, because they can still spit up after eating. But, if you would feel more secure packing a bib, go ahead. You can never be too prepared when having a new born. Also, the la leche group is awesome when it comes to answering breast feeding questions. They're specifically called La Leche group international. If you do a general search, their website comes up.

My baby has used a bib a few times. But not while breastfeeding. They don't usually make a mess then. I would put one on him about 3 months when he started drooling all over himself. That's about it though... I wouldn't bother packing one for the hospital. You probably won't need it, it'll end up being one more thing for you to mess with.

Some babies burp up some milk, but I just used a burp rag (cloth diaper) under the chin or over your shoulder. You'll need to drag around enough stuff without adding bibs to the lot. Beside the milk he'll get at first is clear and won't even show!

Don't bother taking one to the hospital, your milk won't come in til you get home and the baby will be wearing their clothes so even if he spits up who cares. Also, it depends on your baby's breast ettiquette as to whether he'll need a bib for nursing. My son thinks it's really great to suck really hard for a while til the milk comes down and then pop off the nipple and take a milk shower. He likes to make it spray him and me and the chair and he just smiles his big baby smiles. So if you're baby is like this then you'll want a bib if you don't want his clothes messed up. I'd wait and see if I were you.

Nah, i used a diaper one of the soft ones and just put it under her chin some and used it as a buffer under her little mouth and my clothes. You will see what i mean, they dribble and you get milk on your clothes-- tis not a bad thing but, can be a little irratating when in public and have a milk mark on your clothes. If you need support or have any questions on breastfeeding I am a lactation specialist and can help. So contact me if you wish. Breastfeeding is such a wonderful experience I miss it terribly and can't wait to have another baby to do it all over again. Have a great delivery!!!

The baby wont need a bib but if you produce milk like I did you will need two burp clothes one for under the babies face and your breast and one in the cup on the other side my milk just came streaming out. Most dont produce that much that fast but just be prepared and when you start out you will learn the best way for you. every mother and child is different. and each child you have will differ. Congratulations and good luck.

My first was a messy, messy eater, LOL. She also spit up A LOT, so she was nearly always in a bib unless she was sleeping.
My second baby didn't make a mess and nearly never spit up.
So you'll likely have to wait to see. You can throw one into the diaper bag for the hospital -- those tiny bibs don't take up much room.

Oh when you breats feed let me tell you milk gets EVERYwhere you will squirt like you just dont know. My son is 2 weeks old and I never imagined it would be like this. When I feed my bed is soaked, he is, I am. And when I mean soaked I mean SOAKED, lol. YOu will learn to bring a towel or something with you when you do feed. And sometimes I do use a bib bc I can wipe his face and his hands. But as much as you will breast feed you will not always be using one. They feed like every hour to two hours, its a lot of work and a huge mess so be ready. After a few weeks you will start being prepared for it all. I am just beginning to learn some of these tips on my own.
