For all the 12 years in school, I was never pick for anything eventhough I know I am good at some of the activity they are choosing for. Probably I wasn't as cute as the other kids. Thus, if there's story telling contest or something that need volunteer, I always go for it. But when I attended college, I was always chosen as the course representative

Well, it depends....
I'm not being racist AT ALL. (Nor am I making race an issue.) I'm just giving an accurate account of my childhood...
In all the schools that I attended, the white people were really mean towards me. And, honestly, it wasn't something that began with my so-called "blackness" (as many people said). It's just that black people were always nice to me. (I'll make a point to say that not all white people were mean, and that not all black people were nice, just so no one thinks I'm generalizing.)
I was an outcast among white people from jump. But the blacks welcomed me with open arms. None of the black kids, or their parents, gave a damn that I didn't dress to the nines or that I wasn't able to recite the school lessons from start to finish. They were just happy that I was a "good" kid and someone for all the other kids to play with.
So my answer to the question is this-
If the teams consisted of mostly white kids, I was almost always last. I usually ended up being chosen, or forced onto a team, by the teacher (or, if not in school, excluded from the games altogether).
I was considered an "equal opportunity player", so to speak, if the teams consisted of mostly black kids... I was chosen based upon what the kids thought I would/could offer. Sometimes that meant first, sometimes that meant somewhere in the middle, and sometimes that meant the last.
If the teams were "integrated"--- Well, well, well... There are far too many stories to tell. (But they're not all bad. LOL)

In the elementary grades I was picked last and always played catcher in softball. By middle school and high school, I was usually one of the captains. Go figure? I initiated the random line up and divide because I thought it was more fair.
