Both of my kids loved it when I cooked chicken, pork or beef until it fell apart. I put a spoonful of shredded meat, cheese, beans (mashed lightly with a fork) and a tortilla on the high chair tray and they went to town. Meat is actually a good starter food, even though most people think there's something wrong with giving babies meat.

Some other ideas: bake potatoes on the grill (white or sweet) and mash with a fork, grated zucchini, grated apple, toast, cooked frozen peas, corn, shredded cheese, pancakes (you can hide all sorts of healthy stuff in pancakes) pasta, veggie soup, whatever your family is eating.

Spices are OK in moderation, olive oil for taste or texture is fine (some vitamins are fat soluble), light sea salt is good, babies LOVE garlic, onion flavor is good, babies eat almost anything if you give them a chance!

Have fun and let your little explore all kinds of flavors and textures!

Cook and puree' (without any spices) any veggies that he can't eat raw or whole. Just cut up anything he likes and put it in front of him otherwise. He'll love it and you'll be entertained as well.

you don't need to make baby food. it's not necessary.
i never did. cave people didn't either and our children lived.
let the kid keep eating food. use a fork to mash up potatoes or sweet potatoes or cut an apple and let him gum it.
let him chew on a plum. no need to make special baby food.
