what does it meen if you have a mint mark on a nickle the has a F for the mint mark i have heard of D S and P and W but not F the year also says 1903 but beiside the 1903 there is a faint 3. can any 1 explain this and is it worth somthing.

That is an error coin- might be worth a lot. Sounds like the P has a part missing. If it is a known error it is worth much more than a normal coin of its grade and year.

It can't be 1903 but has to be 1913-1938. The F below the date stands for James Earl Fraser the designer of the Indian Head or what is commonly called the Buffalo nickel. as for the other 3 I need to see the nickel, or at least a scan. Take it to a coin dealer and see what he says, then check it out with another dealer.

you have a buffale nickel. it cant be 1903 because the series started in 1913. The F stands for the designer Fraser. The mintmark is on the reverse below the buffalo.
