I'm working on the assumption you are talking about your deduction for federal income tax. When you fill out your W-4, follow the instructions. The gov wants you to pay close to the amount you will owe at the end of the year so that you don't owe an amount you are not prepared to pay. Your employer should provide you a new W-4 each year so that you can keep your deductions current.

Go to IRS.Gov
Research it there. It will ask you for some information, like your current fedaral tax contribution off your paycheck, how many dependents are you claiming. It will tell you what you should have on your W-4, in order to NOT pay taxes.

Speak to your HR dept. and ask for a new W4 form along with a little help and they will talk you through it.
