Sportsbook.com says Ron Paul and Mitt Romney have the same odds. Both are rated at 8 to 1 odds which is approximately an 11 percent chance of becoming the next president.

Following this weekend's Republican debate in Iowa and some extensive mainstream coverage and sound bytes., 2008 US Presidential candidate Ron Paul's odds to become the next Commander-in-Chief have been slashed further from 15 to 1 to 8 to 1.

The Presidential betting odds for most candidates have barely moved in recent weeks at Sportsbook.com and Ron Paul's odds have remained steadfast at 15 to 1 for the past two months after heavy action forced the online bookmaker to slash his odds from 100 to 1.

There are usually very little fluctuations this early in the campaign as most of the betting takes place the few months leading up to Election Day while in 2004, several million dollars were bet on Election Day alone.

Sportsbook.com is heavily referenced by Gambling911.com for its political betting odds menu. Sportsbook.com is the largest North American-facing sports betting website in terms of overall volume of customers.

Ron Paul has more campaign cash than former frontrunner McCain.
Mitt Romney's cash after subtracting debts is only 35 percent more than Ron Paul's net cash.
But a closer look at the (http://www.fec.gov/) reports reveals a less obvious but more remarkable development--the antiwar Republican received nearly 50% of the money donated by employees of the US military.

I've got some news for you...
1. He is definitely not the only pro-life presidential candidate. Sam Brownback, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee come to mind.
2. You are right in the sense that he is the most unique of the candidates. He was opposed to the war, and wants to actually limit government.
3. BUT he is terribly unpopular. He is polling at 1 to 2 percent. He has a HUGE online presence, with a lot of annoying supporters, but not much else.
4. Bottom line here is no. Unless the Republican base suddenly consists of online nerds who post on YouTube, and have Facebook and MySpace accounts, he really doesn't stand a chance. I have no idea why Ron Paul has this cult following. They're just small and loud.
5. GOP straw polls mean nothing. If you consider the strong online presence of Paul, then naturally his online straw poll numbers are going to be incredibly high. But this is decieving. CNN/ MSNBC/ Fox News conduct scientific polls, and all show Ron Paul between 1-2%. Another reality to all this is that straw polls can be national polls... which is also deceptive. Because essentially, Paul is going to have to do well in IA, NH, SC, and NV. But once again, polls show him with no lead.
6. So here is what is going to happen on the primary date. One of the front runners is going to win the Iowa caucas, grab the headlines and shoot into NH. If you're not polling at above 10% in the Republican field your campaign is dead at this point.

At this point anybody in the running still has a chance. The primaries will decide, and until then Mr. Paul is as much a candidate as any.

Certainly, he has to look better than Fred Thompson or Rudy Guiliani. One is an actor and the other is an adulterer, and neither has the charisma to get elected. In the absence of actual programs charisma is a must.

I would not vote for Mr. Paul because he is anti choice and therefore in favour of government interference in my daughter's personal freedoms. Nonetheless he does seem to at least take defensible positions, and is not afraid to actually discuss ideas.

We have to remember, Bill Clinton was only polling 2% and won, so yes, Ron Paul does have a chance and after yesterday's debate his numbers are gaining to top tier candidates. Also 56% of the military supports Mr. Paul.

I honestly don't think he has a chance. I haven't heard a thing about him anywhere except on this website. He doesn't have a lot of publicity. The only candidates I hear about are Hillary Clinton, Buttock Obama, Mitt Romney, Rudy Juliani, and that one guy who's going to have to drop out soon from Arizona (I forgot his name).

I think so. It's still early yet, Rudi Mc Rommney, and Hilobama are already starting to run out of gas.

I saw this man for the first time on the Pub's debate yesterday afternoon and I do have to admit he was impressive with his answers.

I haven't done any independent research on him yet but it appears he's all about the "traditional" conservative views which I personally think give him an extreme upperhand.

He has gone from unknown to the second/third tier candidate. He isn't up their with Giuliani, however you spell his name, or Romney, but he has probably gained the most ground. So yeah, I think he has a chance. People are sick of war and people are sick of our government bending the constitution (whether or not it is happening I leave to you but many people think it is). The fact that he actually votes to limit government spending helps also.

Which is the only place he has any supporters. No one else in America even knows who he is. He will NOT win the nomination. You can bank on it.
