driveline is to long replaced a engine in my 77 ford truck need to cut about 2.5 inchs off will still have 4 in slip yoke

yes you can have the drive line cut and welded to a new length, there is a series of measurements you need to take, to get the proper length the drive line needs to be. once you know the exact length you need the drive line to be, take it to a drive line shop that does that sort of work and have it professionally done and rebalanced. http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/Driveline-101.shtml

It's not worth it. When the suspension compresses the yoke will bottom out and screw up your transmission. Go to a wrecking yard and see if you can find the right length. If not have the driveline tube cut and welded.

Take it to the machie shop.. They cut it right and weld thing back together right...Turn and rebalance if needed...
