for your body type, i suggest a faux-wrap dress. if you wear a regular wrap dress with a tie, it'll tend to be more bulky in that area.
here's a good site:

Try something that is kind of straight from the shoulders to your waist and than "flairs"
from the waist down and have it almost all the way to your ankles. I am in the same perdicament and I just bought a dress that has buttons all the way from chest to ankles. I flairs from the wasit down. That is the best way I can put it. It makes you look slimmer.
Don't call yourself fat.

Hi! I'm a pear too. Avoid long sheaths - they will make you look like a sausage.
Best for our body type: a flowy empire waist or ruched bodice, with wide set straps or V-neck, A-line skirt, and knee length.
DON'T wear anything that clings to your butt, or is really full skirted.
I'd add nude or light heels and hose, to make legs longer without 'breaking' the line of your legs; and do fancier hair and earrings or necklace to draw the eye up - makes most of all your assets!

an empire waist could make you look pregnant.
you say you are pear shaped does that mean your more in the hips and butt? if so an a-line dress would be a great option. also put the focus on your neckline with a ruffle or bright color that will draw the eye up so it will minimize your hips
hope this helps

Empire waist would be best. Anything that has a loose, swingy bottom would hide what you want to hide. A v-neck top would elongate your torso. Avoid anything that is shapeless, as it would look like a potato sack.

An empire waist would probably suit you. Anything that focuses on the narrowest part of your body is always a plus if you're self-conscious about your weight.
