I am 39 weeks pregnant, over 1cm dialated, have been having "contractions" off and on for a few days now. Nothing in a set pattern. I also have a really bad headache that will not go away, I am really ready for this kid to come I dont know if I am trying to make my body think that I am in labor. I was just wondering if the headaches are normal this late in the pregnancy.

Very, very normal. I had real skull-pounders at the end of all my pregnancies: your brain is mildly oxygen-starved, you're likely anemic, and you might be dehydrated.

Every woman is different. At 39 weeks of pregnancy for me, everthing hurt, including my head. I was dilated to 4 and having small contractions for 5 weeks before the doctor took me in to get things started.

If you're starting to dilate then your child is coming, whether you're mentally ready or not. If I were you I'd be glad that you're ready. Oh and start napping during the day so that if you go into labour in the evening you have some strength to push until morning. Good luck!!

OMG, I feel your pain- literally! I'm 35 weeks with twins (due to be induced tomorrow!!) and I keep getting flash headaches. According to my OB, it's just due to our lovely Michigan weather- nothing for me to worry about.

I'd call your doc ASAP and let them know. Headaches can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. Better to call (or go to hospital) and NOT need it, than need it and not call.

Good luck and congrats!

Could be a sign of pre-eclampsia. Get your blood pressure checked ASAP.
