I have been wearing underwires for years, and they are not bad for you, it is a personal preference and normally if you are large busted they do offer more support, victorias secret are too expensive for most people, working people that is. If you go to any good department store they will have a person there to fit you properly, which buy the way, I'm sorry, is the best way to get your correct size. You can call up the store and ask them if they have a bra fit specialist there and on what days they are available, then go, it really is not that bad, they see hundreds of women so it is not a big deal to them, and it is a very normal thing to do so you should not be embarrased. Good luck.

Underwire bras aren't a problem for most women. However,in some cases, they interfere with the lymph nodes because they press too hard. This is a fit problem usually, but sometimes something you can't fix. For pregnant women, underwire bras can sometimes interfere with milk glands causing them to not flow and resulting in problems.

I have a very large bust (cup size F) and found that your size can vary from brand to brand and occasionally style to style within the same brand. If you search out "bra sizing" you'll find pages where you measure yourself and can at least get a start on what size you need.

There are those who believe that the pressure presented by the wiring under the cup can cause breast cancer (not true).

I personally don't like underwires because I find them to be HORRIBLY uncomfortable. But that's just me. I think that many, many women wear underwires...its all a matter of personal choice....and pain tolerance! LOL

As for fitting, go to a store that has a fitting room, and take several sizes with you from the racks. TRY them ON...this is the only way you will know what fits YOU without seeing a professional fitter.
