I have comcast internet on my desktop. I already have a laptop that is wireless, and I have a netgear router. After 3 hours I finally got it to work with my pc and cable modem. I cannot get it to work with my laptop. I tried using the installation cd and it still wont work because it is asking me to do it the same way i did with my pc but my laptop doesn't have comcast on it, only my pc does. Can somebody PLEASE tell me in detail how to get my wireless router to work with my laptop?? My router is netgear, my laptop is compaq, and my modem is comcast. Thanks.

You need to run the ethernet cable from your comcast modem into the internet port on your netgear router (the port by itself). The run another ethernet cable from one of the four ports (numbered 1-4) to the ethernet adapter port on the back of your pc. Shutdown your pc, unplug router for 30-seconds to reset it. Plug it back in, and wait another 30-seconds....turn your desktop pc on and check your internet connection. Once you verify it works turn your laptop on and try for a connection.

If your laptop doesn't connect make sure that any external hardware switch for the wireless is turned on (some laptops have a switch, some do not). Also make sure your wirless LAN is enabled.

Don't forget to login to router and find the wireless security tab/section and turn on WEP...write down the key it gives you..the next time you connect with your laptop you will need to put it in (one time only).

If you're talking about a wireless laptop and a wired PC, the wireless connection probably needs its MAC address entered into the router settings. Your router's security may be set to accept only the wireless computers that match the list of MAC addresses entered into the router.

Did you try resetting your modem by unplugging the router, then the modem- wait ten seconds then plug the modem back in, when all the lights are lit again on your modem, plug the router back in. Not sure if this will fix your problem or not, but it may be worth a try. It works for us.

Check your DHCP settings on your router. DHCP is the router function that assigns IP addresses to devices attached to the router. It may not be enabled.

Make sure wireless is enabled on the router too!

Good luck!

On your laptop, go to Wireless Connections, Wireless Networks tab and unclick "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings". Configure your laptop's wireless settings using its own software and be sure wifi is turned on.

Try registering your laptop with comcast. I would try contacting comcast and asking them how to get in onto your laptop.

Call a professional and have them come install it and secure your wireless router with WPA encryption.
