You will only get a good guess here.

That is why called them stormtroopers; they are copied after the SS or at least that style of army. Most of Lucas's ideas come from the past in both real history and mythology. I recently saw this in a documentary on the History Channel. It is quite interesting that he weaved this story using these ideas. There is even some religion mixed in too.

Yes Lucas Wanted To Portray Them As An Embodiment Of Faceless Evil Could You Think Of A Better Name?

Yeah, I believe Lucas wanted to add some menace to their name so he copied the term storm troopers from history, not just Germany and the SS. Though in the 20th century, the term came to represent Germany elite troops, original storm troopers trace their history to the old 'storming of the castle' times, and it took brave soldiers to be part of that attack where death was a high probability.

The idea of storm troopers is actually quite old. Essentially these are troops that will assault the enemy directly and viciously. As in "Storm the fortress". I do believe the term storm troopers came into common use during world war one. This was a couple of decades before the nazis.

I think much of the movie was a play on a theory that mankind relieves all his past mistakes. There are many similarities to war with Germany etc. Storm troopers with familiar looking " Stahlhelm" helmets that Germans wore during WWI and WWII.

Then there is Yoda. Juda, is Jew in German and pronounced very similar to Yoda. It is the good and evil thing. Since Star Wars was supposed to take place many years before our present time, it shows that we have failed to learn from our mistakes and repeated them during our last 4-5 wars.

There are many similarities and references to religion also.

Yes it was copied from WWI.

"The Stormtroopers were specialist military troops which were formed in the last years of World War I as the German army developed new methods of attacking enemy trenches, called "infiltration tactics". Men trained in these methods were known in German as Sturmmann (literally "storm man" but usually translated as Stormtrooper), formed into companies of Sturmtruppen (Storm Troops). Other armies have used the term "assault troops", "shock troops" or fire teams for specialist soldiers who perform the infiltration tasks of stormtroopers." -WIKI
