Here's a question that should catch your eye! Or will it? There's a person who is with the neighbor hood watch who is always calling the Police even when the homeless person is not doing anything wrong; my question is do you condone this? If so why & if not why?

I wouldn't call the police if the homeless person isn't doing anything wrong. That is uncalled for. That person should mind her own business and leave the homeless alone or atleast help them. That person does not have a heart.

This question is unclear. Is it a different homeles person every time? Certainly there is cause for concern with some homeless people. There is a an underbelly of crime associated with the homeless. However, being under the guillotine of homelessness myself, I feel the person is over reacting. Just because a person is homeless doesn't mean he or she is up to no good. Most Americans are one or 2 paychecks from homelessness anyway. I think the real question should be, why are there so many homeless? Why are things so bad in this country? Why do we allow landlords to continually rip us off? That all said, I think the neighborhood watch person has some precconceived notions about the homeless and as a result, overreacts and phones the police.

If I am understanding the situation, the Neighborhood Watch person is more concerned about "keeping the neighborhood clear of undesireables" than crime. Loitering may be against the law ... but that is much different than dealing drugs, breaking and entering, assault, etc. Instead of calling the police who are then forced to issue a ticket (which the person probably can't pay anyway) ... why doesn't the Neighborhood watch person call a social services support group like the Salvation Army??? I do not condone the actions of this watch person.

Neighborhood watch is to protect the neighborhood from perpetrators. The fact that this homeless person is in the neighborhood and has done nothing wrong is a double negative. Homeless has nothing to do with whether this idiot continues to call the Police. This homeless person has done nothing wrong and should be afforded the same rights as other citizens. If this neighborhood watch person cannot handle the homeless person, perhaps he/she should give up being on the neighborhood watch or seek some treatment to diffuse his anger/hatred/etc.

There is a fine line between helpful obsevation and intrusion. I admit that I watch the goings on on my block. I have yet to call the police. I have confronted an early morning honker who repeatedly awoke my son. Of course, the person could have taken exception to my actions and took out a gun. Some could say that I have a boring life.

instead of calling police this person should see if they could help in any way, this persons van is there home for now ,unreal that he/she got a ticket.neighbor hood watch is just what it says, it's suppose to be in place to help people, not to cause them grief, why didn't this person call a local shelter to see if someone could come out and help, if he was to scared to,I'm sure the caller would not like it if some one did the same to him if the situation were reversed

It's not right. If the homeless person isn't doing any harm or causing a problem, then there's no need to call the police. She/he should be taking out some food or helping him/her to find a shelter.

Unless you have been there, you have no clue. This is something that the neighborhood watch person should become aware of. But by the grace of God, there goes I.

He's homeless, If he's loitering, he must be dealt with. loiterers will only cause mischief and cause children to have to take a different route when they are walking along the street. Besides, homeless people dig through garbage cans to get soda cans and bottles, and leave the leftover garbage on the ground around it.
