you would first have to figure out if they are mammals or fish.then you could tell if they have live births or lay eggs.

No fish....Mammal.....see cetaceans. Point of fact, Dolphins have been known to get horny over human females. Mermaid and Female Dolphin Tail are much the same and whose to say the angle of the tail is an engineering wonder in the water.
